How often do I need a Colonic?

If your digestive system is functioning at near optimum levels, then an initial course of three treatments would be recommended, ideally booked close together (within 1 – 2 weeks), followed by an maintenance Colonic every 3 – 4 months.

If you suffer from any digestive problem or have a specific health need, then an initial course of 6 – 12 Colonics may be recommended. Your particular needs will be discussed with your therapist prior to any treatment and recommendations.

How can I tell if I have Toxic Material in my Colon?

This condition is prevalent in all civilised societies. Absorption of Toxic Material by whatever modality is almost impossible to avoid in everyday life. The accumulation and build up of these substances will invariably occur in the Colon where they are carried via the bloodstream around the body leaving deposits in vulnerable and weakened areas.

Do Colonics hurt?

Whilst it is difficult to ascertain an individual’s perception of pain, the procedure itself is rarely painful. Painful experiences can usually be the result of tension or resistance. Most people are unaccustomed to producing eliminated waste other than in private but your skilled therapist will be experienced at putting you at your ease and minimising any discomfort.

The introduction of the water into the colon can cause the internal muscles to contract. This can usually be felt as cramps or spasms in the bowel. If you experience any of these sensations, it is important to tell the therapist as this can help to build up a picture of what is going on in the colonic area.

Will I be embarrassed?

No. Your privacy and dignity will be maintained throughout. You will be in a private room with exclusive use of en-suite facilities. You will be with a highly professional and dedicated therapist who totally understands and recognises the needs of her client’s sensitivity.

Anything that is said, seen and heard within the treatment room and within the confines of a client/therapist relationship will be kept strictly confidential.

Except for the gentle insertion of a small, disposable speculum into the rectum, you are completely covered throughout the whole procedure.

Disposable tubing carries clean, filtered water in and waste water out through a pressure and temperature controlled system. Any sounds, mess and odours usually associated with enemas are simply not present.

Are Colonics Habit Forming?

Again, No! Colonic Irrigation is simply a tool intended to help the colon to regain and retain natural rhythmic motion whereas, the bowel can become used to the effects of laxatives and become more and more sluggish as a result of constant use. The therapist can manipulate the flow of water to mimic the peristaltic action of the colon and thus begin the reversal of the effects of a bowel with poor muscle action and poor elimination.

Are Colonics dangerous?

As it is essentially a natural process, there is virtually no risk involved. The good, beneficial intestinal flora will benefit from the removal of toxic waste in the colon and will begin to multiply immediately.

The equipment used is fully disposable and the treatment room and en-suite facilities are fully sanitised between each client.

The most common side effect from a Colonic is that it may take 2 – 3 days for the colon to fill again and for you to have a normal bowel movement. It rarely causes diarrhoea and many people will have a Colonic in their lunch hour as little if any adverse effect is felt.

There are some conditions which are contraindicated for Colon Hydrotherapy. These are:

o       Severe Cardiac Disease

o       High Blood Pressure not controlled by a doctor

o       Low Blood Pressure resulting in fainting episodes and severe anaemia

o       Aneurysm

o       GI Haemorrhage or Perforation

o       Cirrhosis of Liver

o       Carcinoma of the Colon

o       Active Fistulas and Fissures

o       Pregnancy

o       Abdominal Hernias

o       Recent colorectal Surgery

o       Renal Insufficiency or Severe Kidney Disorders

o       Inflammations – Diverticulitis

                              - Ulcerative Colitis

                              - Crohns Disease

Will my Bowel be completely empty?

Generally, because the bowel is an organ that is in constant use, it is doubtful whether your bowel will ever be completely empty.

The final flush of the Colonic usually reveals recent waste added to the large bowel from the small intestines. As this process is on-going then it is to be expected that more digested food will be passing through soon.
