COLON HYDROTHERAPY

Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as Colonic Irrigation, or simply Colonics is the process of cleansing the entire colon by passing several litres of water through it with the use of special equipment. This has the effect of flushing out impacted faecal matter, toxins, mucous and even parasites, that have built up over the passage of time. It is a procedure which should only be undertaken by a fully qualified practitioner.

FACT Cleansing the colon by this modality is not a new concept, it is recorded in history as being in use in 1500BC. Colonics have been used to relieve chronic toxicity successfully for decades.

Normally, several treatments will be needed to achieve desired results regarding the elimination of impacted matter and restoration of bowel regularity.
Initially, only gas and recent faecal matter may be released. Impacted faecal matter can cause an imbalance of the natural organisms that normally populate the bowel, causing what is known as dysbiosis. Decomposing and putrifying matter can cause a toxic environment in the bowel and can lead to many health problems. Constipation can cause backed up pollution of the body cells.

FACT Removing large amounts of toxic matter can give relief to many symptoms and will allow improved assimilation of nutrients from food and can help to prevent or restore nutritional and vitamin deficiencies. Colonic Irrigation can help improve the tone of the bowel and restore peristaltic action to a sluggish bowel, thus reducing the need for more colonics over time.

During treatment, a fully disposable speculum is inserted into your bowel via the anus, this is attached to a disposable tubing which in turn is attached to the machine which will pass temperature and pressure controlled, filtered water into the bowel. The temperature and pressure are either controlled by the therapist or yourself.
This process, although it can be uncomfortable at times, is not painful, triggers peristaltic action and you will begin to expel faecal matter or gas. The therapist may massage your abdomen to help the elimination process and to begin to form an understanding of your particular anatomy.
Use of the Chi Machine is optional prior to the colonic.

FACT Sanitation and hygiene is of paramount importance at fresh as a daisy (colon care) and all speculums and tubing are fully disposable. The treatment room and en suite shower room are fully sanitised between clients.

After the colonic you may feel so good (fresh as a daisy, in fact) that you may be tempted to rush around and double your usual energy output. We advise caution here for it is easy to overdo things. Light to moderate exercise is good if your body is used to it, but we recommend that you avoid any strenuous activity for 24 hours after your treatment.

FACT Since the colon has been cleansed of waste matter, it may take one or two days for your bowels to fill again and for normal bowel movements to resume.

A light diet of fruit, vegetable, soups, chicken or fish should be followed for two to three days prior to your treatment. Foods that cause gas, spicy or rich foods should be avoided. Gassy drinks and alcohol should also be avoided. It is best not to drink for 2-3 hours before your colonic.

Before your first treatment you will need to complete a short health questionnaire with your therapist. There is no charge for this and will form the basis of your treatment depending on the reasons for your colonic and any problems that you have or are currently suffering from.

Asian treatment techniques have been developed over the centuries.  Indian Head Massage has evolved from a traditional form of family grooming to a specific and objective form of complementary therapy.  This was mainly due to its being brought to the West by Narendra Mehta in the 1970's.  Of course there has been a resurgence in interest as people have travelled further and more refularly, but the benefits of the treatments have always been there.

 

Strong family cultures across Asia have always seen grooming together as socially important - A time to treat the hair with oils and catch up on local news.  The process of hairdressing as we now know it would be a descendant from this and still across Asia and into Turkey and the Middle East, a scalp, neck and shoulder massage would always come as standard.  It is as much ritual as necessity and is akin to the 'old style' barbers shaves that prove so popular with tourists visit the areas.
